How much does AI prompt tracking cost? A plain answer, with the maths
AI visibility tools sell prompt bundles on monthly plans. Here's what actually drives the price, and what tracking your own prompts costs per answer.
- Most AI visibility tools sell a fixed number of prompts on a monthly plan, so you pay for the bundle whether you fill it or not.
- Three things set the price of a tracked prompt, namely which assistants you check, how often, and how many prompts you track.
- In Seoprama a ChatGPT, Gemini or AI Overviews answer costs 2 AI credits. A prompt checked weekly in all three is about 26 AI credits a month.
- AI credits are a separate balance from SEO credits. Packs start at $4.99 (₹249 + GST), and AI Plus plans start at $33 (₹1,799 + GST) a month.
- The $2.99 trial covers the SEO tools only, so plan on an AI credit pack if prompt tracking is what you want to test.
You’ve heard that customers now ask ChatGPT which tool to buy, and you’d like to know if it ever says your name. Then you open a few pricing pages and every AI prompt tracking plan looks the same: a monthly fee, a bundle of prompts, and a sales call if you want more.
So what should AI prompt tracking pricing actually be? This post breaks down what drives the cost, shows the real per-answer numbers for the AI prompt tracking tool in Seoprama, and works through a few realistic budgets so you can decide before you spend anything.
What AI prompt tracking actually does (and why it costs money)
Prompt tracking sends the questions your customers ask to AI assistants on a schedule, then records what comes back. Was your brand mentioned? Was a page on your site cited? Or did the answer recommend a competitor instead?
Every one of those checks is a real request to a real model. Someone pays for that compute, and for the search the assistant runs before answering. That’s why nobody offers serious prompt tracking for free, and why the price scales with how many answers you collect.
The useful way to think about it: you’re buying answers. A prompt is just the question. The cost comes from how many times, and in how many assistants, that question gets asked.

That screen is what you’re paying for. For each prompt and assistant you see whether your brand was mentioned, whether your site was cited, and which competitors showed up. You can open the answer itself, with brand names highlighted, and see every page it cited.
Weekly checks across ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Claude.
How most AI visibility tools price it
Most tools in this space sell a monthly plan with a set number of prompts. A few examples, so you can see the shape of the market:
- Semrush One Starter is $199 a month and includes 50 prompts, alongside the rest of Semrush’s SEO toolkit (as compared on seoprama.com’s prompt tracking page, November 2026).
- Semrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit on its own starts from $99 a month (same source).
- Otterly.AI’s Lite plan is $29 a month for 15 prompts, according to LLM Pulse’s comparison of AEO tools, checked on 2 November 2026.
To be fair to those tools, a bundle can be good value if you fill it. Semrush in particular gives you a big SEO suite on top, and if you use all of it every week, that matters.
But the bundle model has two problems for a founder or a small team. First, the prompt counts come in steps. Need 60 prompts on a 50-prompt plan and you’re looking at the next tier.
Second, the plan renews whether you looked at it or not. AI visibility is something many teams check closely for a quarter, then glance at monthly.
The three things that set the price of a tracked prompt
Strip away the plan names and three dials decide what you pay.
1. Which assistants you check. Answers from some assistants cost far more to collect than others. In Seoprama, ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews answers cost 2 AI credits each. Perplexity costs 40 and Claude costs 180, because those answers come from the model APIs with web search turned on.

2. How often you check. Weekly means about 4.33 answers per assistant a month. Daily means about 30. That’s roughly seven times the cost for the same prompt.
3. How many prompts you track. This one’s obvious, but it’s the dial most plans lock for you. When you pay per answer, 12 prompts cost 12 prompts’ worth. You don’t round up to 50.
Put the first two together and you get the number that matters most:

My honest view: weekly is right for almost everyone. AI answers do shift, but not in a way you’ll act on daily. Daily makes sense for a short window, say the fortnight after a product launch or a big PR push, and then you turn it back down.
What AI prompt tracking costs in Seoprama
Seoprama prices prompt tracking per answer, in AI credits. AI credits are a separate balance from the regular credits you use for keyword research or rank tracking, and they’re used only by AI features.
Here are the numbers you’ll work with:
| What you run | AI credits |
|---|---|
| One answer in ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews | 2 |
| One answer in Perplexity | 40 |
| One answer in Claude | 180 |
| One prompt checked weekly in ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews, for a month | about 26 |
| The same prompt checked daily, for a month | about 180 |
| Researching a prompt topic | about 101 |
Two ways to pay for them:
- AI credit packs, from $4.99 (₹249 + GST in India). Buy once, spend as you go. The AI credits you buy never expire.
- AI Plus plans, monthly, which bundle AI credits with regular SEO credits. AI Plus Basic is $33 a month with 1,500 AI credits (about 55 prompts tracked weekly). AI Plus Pro is $69 with 4,000 AI credits (about 150 prompts). In India they’re ₹1,799 and ₹3,799 + GST, and there’s an Agency plan at ₹12,999 + GST with 12,000 AI credits, about 460 prompts.
Outside India, plans are paid a month at a time and nothing renews on its own. In India they renew by UPI AutoPay or card, and you can cancel any month.
There’s also no seat fee. Your team shares one balance, so a founder, a marketer and an outside consultant can all look at the same prompts without the bill going up. On bundle plans, extra users are often where a cheap plan stops being cheap, so check that line on any tool you compare.
For Indian readers, the pricing page puts it in rupees: one ChatGPT, Gemini or AI Overviews answer is about ₹0.38. Ten prompts checked weekly in those three assistants use about 260 AI credits a month, which is about ₹50 + GST.
Three realistic budgets, worked out
Numbers in a table are one thing. Here’s what they look like for people with real constraints. All three are hypothetical examples.
A founder checking 10 buying questions. Say you run a small accounting app and want to know if ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews mention you for questions like “best invoicing software for freelancers”. Ten prompts, weekly, three assistants: about 260 AI credits a month. That’s a small slice of the smallest pack, and since AI credits don’t expire, the rest waits for next month.
A SaaS team that wants Perplexity too. Now say you track 20 prompts in the cheap three, add Perplexity for the 5 prompts that matter most, and research one new topic a month.

That’s 1,486 AI credits, which fits inside AI Plus Basic’s 1,500. Notice where the credits went: five Perplexity prompts cost more than twenty prompts in the other three assistants combined. That’s the pattern to watch.
A freelancer covering five clients. Five clients with 20 prompts each, weekly, in ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews: 100 prompts × 26 = about 2,600 AI credits a month. That sits comfortably inside AI Plus Pro’s 4,000, with room to add Perplexity for a client who cares about it.
And here’s the honest flip side. If you want 50 prompts checked daily across three assistants, that’s about 9,000 AI credits a month, more than AI Plus Pro includes. At that volume, a bundled suite plan is worth pricing out properly, especially if you’d use the rest of the suite too.
Where to spend your AI credits, and where to save them
The per-answer model rewards a bit of thought before you add prompts. A few habits that keep the bill sensible:
Start with the cheap three. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews cost 2 AI credits an answer, so they’re the obvious place to begin. Add Perplexity or Claude only for the prompts where you know those audiences matter. A developer tool might want Claude. A local bakery probably doesn’t.
Track buying questions, not vanity ones. “What is invoicing software” tells you little. “Best invoicing software for a two-person agency” tells you whether you’re in the shortlist. Ten good prompts beat fifty vague ones.
Use prompt research before you track. Guessing prompts is how lists bloat. The AI prompt research tool shows the questions people ask in your space and which sites the answers already cite, for about 101 AI credits a topic. Do that once, then track the handful that matter.

Turn frequency up only for a reason. Launch week, a rebrand, a big press mention. Then turn it back to weekly. Each tracker has its own schedule, so you can keep your top five prompts daily for a fortnight and leave the rest alone.
Check the cost before you save. The app shows a tracker’s monthly cost before you save it. If the number surprises you, it’s almost always one expensive assistant switched on for every prompt.
Setting up prompt tracking without overspending
Here’s the setup I’d suggest for a first month, start to finish.
- Buy the smallest AI credit pack. It starts at $4.99 (₹249 + GST). Don’t start with a plan until you know your volume.
- Pick 10 prompts. Write them the way a buyer would type them. Include your category, your audience and a constraint, like price or team size.
- Add two or three competitors. Brand names and domains. Every answer is checked for them too, which is often the most useful part.
- Choose ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews, weekly. About 26 AI credits a prompt a month.
- Set the country and language. Each tracker runs for one country and language, so you see what your own customers see.
- Look again after four weeks. Drop prompts that never move, add the ones prompt research turned up, and decide if a plan makes sense.
If you’d rather see the whole workspace first, the tour below shows how costs appear before you run anything.
What about the $2.99 trial?
Fair question, and I want to be precise here. The $2.99 trial (₹99 + GST in India) gives you regular SEO credits for keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks and the rest. It doesn’t include AI credits.
So if prompt tracking is the only thing you care about, skip the trial and buy the smallest AI credit pack instead. If you also want to see where you rank on Google for the same topics, the trial is a cheap way to test the rank tracker alongside your prompts. Most founders end up wanting both views: Google rankings for the traffic you get today, AI answers for where buyers are starting to look.
Buy credits once and spend them only when you run something. Bigger packs give more credits per dollar.
Is pay-per-answer prompt tracking right for you?
It’s a good fit if you:
- want to track a few dozen prompts, for yourself or a handful of clients
- care mostly about ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews
- expect to check closely for a while, then ease off
- don’t want a prompt bundle that renews on its own
A bundled suite may suit you better if you want hundreds of prompts checked daily, need features Seoprama doesn’t have yet (sentiment analysis, for one), or already pay for that suite’s SEO tools and use them every week. That’s a reasonable choice.
But if your real question is “does ChatGPT mention us, and does that change?”, paying per answer is the simplest way to find out. Set up 10 prompts on the prompt tracking tool, let it run for a month, and look at the pricing again once you know your real volume.
About 21 keyword searches, or a few searches plus a backlink lookup and a week of rank tracking. No monthly plan, and credits never expire.
Frequently asked questions
How much does AI prompt tracking cost per prompt?
In Seoprama, one prompt checked weekly in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews uses about 26 AI credits a month. Checked daily, the same prompt uses about 180. Adding Perplexity (40 AI credits an answer) or Claude (180 an answer) raises the cost, so most people keep those for a few key prompts.
Can I use regular credits for prompt tracking?
No. Prompt tracking uses AI credits, a separate balance used only by AI features. AI credit packs start at $4.99 (₹249 + GST in India), and AI credits you buy never expire.
Does the $2.99 trial include AI prompt tracking?
No. The $2.99 trial (₹99 + GST in India) includes regular SEO credits only. To try prompt tracking, buy the smallest AI credit pack or an AI Plus plan.
Why do Perplexity and Claude cost more to track?
Those answers come from the model APIs with web search turned on, which costs far more to collect. A Perplexity answer is 40 AI credits and a Claude answer is 180, against 2 for ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews.
How many prompts does AI Plus Basic cover?
AI Plus Basic includes 1,500 AI credits a month, enough for about 55 prompts checked weekly in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. It’s $33 a month, or ₹1,799 + GST in India.
Is weekly prompt tracking enough?
For most brands, yes. AI answers change, but rarely in a way you’d act on daily. Use daily checks for short windows, like a launch, then switch back to weekly.
